What is Research in Pokemon GO?

Pokemon GO Professor Willow
Serebii

Research is a feature in Pokemon GO that allows you to assist Professor Willow with his Pokemon research. By completing Research Tasks, you can unlock rewards ranging from items to rare Pokemon encounters. There are two types of Research in Pokemon GO, Field Research and Special Research.

Field Research tasks are obtained by spinning PokeStops. You can only complete one task per PokeStop each day, and the tasks are the same for all players on a given day.

Completing a Field Research task rewards you with items, Pokemon encounters, or a Stamp for unlocking a Research Breakthrough.

How to Unlock a Research Breakthrough in Pokemon GO

To unlock a Research Breakthrough, you need to collect 7 Stamps by completing one Field Research task per day for seven days. You won’t lose any stamps if you miss a day, so you don’t need to collect them consecutively.

Once you have earned 7 Stamps, you can open the Research Breakthrough box and earn rewards such as a rare Pokemon encounter, XP, Stardust, Rare Candy, Pinap Berries, Ultra Balls, or Poke Balls.
